Organist and Choir Director
St. Paul’s Catholic Church, St. Petersburg, Florida, is seeking an organist and choir director. Start date is August 1, 2026.
The parish is seeking an experienced professional music minister, who will be responsible for the effective planning, coordination, and execution of sacred music within the liturgical life of the parish, along with providing music for funerals and weddings. The candidate must be skilled and experienced as an organist. The candidate should also have the vocal ability to lead the congregation in song in the absence of a cantor.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The employee will also receive a stipend for each funeral Mass and wedding at which they provide music. The number of funeral Masses averages 25 annually, with weddings averaging 20 annually.
The position entails planning and providing music for a Saturday Vigil Mass and two Sunday morning Masses, plus music for Holydays of Obligation, and other special celebrations (e.g., First Communion Masses, Sacrament of Confirmation Mass, and Holy Week Services.) It also entails working with cantors and direction of the parish choir.
In its choir loft, St. Paul’s has a Zimmer pipe organ, installed in 1983, with two manuals, 19 ranks, 23 stops, 12 registers. The loft also contains a baby grand piano.
The candidate must pass a Level II background check and complete Safe Environment Training.
