Swimming Head Coach

Department: High School Education
Location: St. Petersburg, FL

Position Overview:

St. Petersburg Catholic High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Head Coach for our Varsity Swimming program. The ideal candidate will be a leader who promotes athletic excellence, sportsmanship, and character development both in and out of the pool. The coach will be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and supervision of the swim team during the competitive season and any off-season activities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive training program that aligns with the mission and values of SPC.

  • Plan and lead all practices, swim meets, and team activities.

  • Provide instruction and feedback to improve individual and team performance.

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes at all times.

  • Foster a positive team culture based on discipline, respect, accountability, and teamwork.

  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director on scheduling, budgeting, transportation, and facility usage.

  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, athletic staff, and administration.

  • Ensure compliance with FHSAA rules and school policies.

  • Support academic achievement and monitor academic progress of student-athletes.


Qualifications:

  • Previous coaching experience in swimming, preferably at the high school or competitive level.

  • Strong knowledge of stroke techniques, training principles, and meet strategies.

  • Ability to inspire and motivate student-athletes of various skill levels.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Must be available for afternoon practices and evening/weekend meets.

  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain).

  • Must pass a Level II background screening as required by the Diocese of St. Petersburg.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Collegiate swimming experience (athlete or coach).

  • Experience coaching both male and female athletes.

  • Knowledge of aquatic facility management and safety protocols.
