Vocal Music Instructor and Worship Coordinator  

 
Summary:
 The Vocal Music Instructor and Worship Coordinator work within both the high school Performing Arts Department and the Department of Mission and Ministry. This enthusiastic music educator will be responsible for direct classroom instruction of the vocal music program, along with planning, managing, and orchestrating all vocal performances. As the primary liturgy planner and musician for all school, grade level, and special event liturgical celebrations, this individual inspires students to glorify God with their musical gifts and supports the sacramental life of the school community.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in music education, music performance, or church music with both piano performance and vocal training skills. Experience teaching youth and leading ensembles.
Catholic Liturgical Music experience is a plus. Must be able to perform at liturgies as an accompanist. 
Organizational skills and adeptness with technology, sound, and music instrumentation programs would be considered an asset. 
Bonus Qualifications: Experience with Musical Theatre coordination, casting, and direction.
Successful completion of a Level II Background Screening.

Classification: 10-month, full-time position with the understanding that the job requires nights and weekend commitments.

Vocal Instruction Responsibilities: 
Reports to:  Performing Arts High School Chair ? High School Principal (for classroom instruction)  

1. Coaches and instructs a highly visible High School Vocal Ensemble through assigned courses in Vocal Music Performance. Teaches music literacy, vocal technique, and performance skills, through a breadth of genres in vocal repertoire for both competitive performance.
2. Designs the course curriculum map and goals to meet multiple student learning outcomes in vocal technique, solo and ensemble performance, music literacy, and music history. Teaches the course and follows all expectations of grade reporting. 
3. Teaches from enduring understandings of the arts, building students toward achieving an accomplished level or higher in the creating, responding, connecting, and performing arts processes, as defined by the National Core Arts Standards. 
4. Integrates choral classical, world, pop, musical, and sacred music into the curriculum.  
5. Differentiates course levels in order to develop a sequential track of increased student leadership, application of music literacy and theory, competitive performance opportunities, and advanced choral and solo work. 
6. Plans and delivers a robust, yet balanced performance schedule that includes school liturgies and expectations considerate to students’ lives while providing service to the school community and exposure to authentic performance in various cultural milleu. 
7. Possesses a capacity for strategic thinking as it relates to developing a robust vocal music program in the AHN PK-8 space as part of a larger strategic initiative to grow our performing arts program.

Worship Coordination Responsibilities:
Reports to:  Director of Mission & Ministry

1. Plans all liturgies, including reading selection, Mass setting, prayer of the faithful, and music selection; prepares scripts for priests and student lectors. Prepares slide decks for liturgies. 
2. Creatively considers music and texts that are developmentally appropriate, theologically sound, and melodic; that evoke the reverence and meaning of various liturgical seasons, feasts, SNJM traditions, etc.
3. Works with Lower and Middle Divisions to convene student music ministry groups and rehearsals.
4. Rehearses the high school vocal ensemble for the delivery of high-quality, spiritually moving sacred music at liturgies, building students’ pastoral musicianship. 
5. Prepare a music ministers’ retreat day, or other workshop or other opportunities for vocal development and cantor coaching.
6. Collaborates with the Coordinator of Retreats to provide music for retreat Masses and assists with other prayer experiences. 
7. Partners with Mission and Ministry team members to prepare and facilitate additional sacramental and prayer experiences that support a variety of Christian expressions of an interpersonal and communal relationship with God.
